Val Thorens is a winter sports resort in the Tarentaise valley, located in the commune of Belleville, in the Savoie department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It was developed on a virgin site from 1969 and inaugurated for the winter season in 1971.

With a village at an altitude of 2,300 metres, Val Thorens is the highest resort in Europe, although its maximum altitude of 3,230 m is lower than the maximum altitude of 3,880 m in Zermatt, Switzerland. The resort belongs to the 3 Valleys ski area.
